Government Spending and Accountability
Every dollar the government spends is a dollar that was taken from a taxpayer, whether that be a business or an individual. That reality should guide every decision we make in Topeka. Taxpayers deserve to know their hard-earned money is being used efficiently, effectively, and with accountability. That is why I supported a historic reduction in state spending while continuing to strengthen funding for critical services such as K–12 education. We can be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars while still investing in the core priorities that matter most to Kansas families.
Supporting Strong Educational Outcomes
Education must remain a top priority for state government, starting with strong educational programs and ensuring student outcomes remain competitive with other states. During my tenure, we have fully funded K–12 education and increased special education funding. We are working to ensure students, teachers, and parents have access to a system that supports success. Policymakers must also ensure that our institutions of higher learning provide degrees and certificates that align with the needs of today’s workforce and are delivered in an affordable manner.
Generating Economic Growth and Jobs
Growing the Kansas economy is a top priority, and at the center of that effort is the need for more high-paying jobs for Kansas residents. That begins with building a truly competitive business environment that attracts investment, supports growth, and keeps Kansas competitive with other states. Taxes should remain low and predictable, and regulations should be structured in a way that encourages innovation and job creation rather than slowing it down. Just as important, we must continue investing in workforce training so Kansans have the skills needed for today’s economy and to meet the demands of employers looking to locate and expand here. A strong Kansas economy is built on clear priorities: supporting job creators, empowering workers, and ensuring opportunity exists in every corner of the state.
Lowering Taxes to Benefit Kansas Families
Property taxes are pricing hardworking Kansans out of their own homes. Rising valuations and increased government spending have created a squeeze on homeowners, often forcing them to struggle to stay in homes they have already paid off. That is why I voted to remove the state from the property tax business, now all property tax dollars in Kansas are spent at the local level. I also supported giving Kansans the ability to rein in out-of-control budgets and place limits on excessive appraisal increases.

National Security
ISIS and Iran have been emboldened by the disastrous foreign policies of President Obama. Those who wish to do us harm have grown stronger as the Middle East continues to unravel. For the past eight years, the Obama administration has turned its back on our strongest ally in the region, Israel. The United States must play a leadership role in taking the fight to ISIS and exit the disastrous Iran deal. In addition, we must have better safeguards in place to prevent radical Islamic terrorists from gaining entry to our nation.
For decades, Washington insiders have ignored the realities on our Southern border. This is unacceptable. The American people are not safe when we do not know who is entering and leaving our country. Securing the border must be our first priority. Our immigration process must deter criminals and terrorists from entering illegally while providing a fair, efficient process for law abiding individuals wishing to pursue the American dream.

Congressional votes should be based on the best interests of their districts and the nation, not on lining up a high paying lobbyist job. I support legislation that would prevent a former member of Congress from working as a lobbyist for five years following the completion of their term. This five-year ban would help shut the revolving door and lessen the influence of special interests in Washington. Also, I oppose special perks for members of Congress, which is why I support legislation that would require Congress to live by the same rules as the American people.
